If you’re an entrepreneur or content creator looking for a way to transform knowledge into earnings, Teachable is the platform for you.
Teachable is a learning management system (LMS) based by Angkur Nagpal as a side project. It was previously known as Fedora. Nagpal, a class builder himself, grew frustrated over the lack of direct access to students some platforms had. So, he decided to create his online learning platform with characteristics that he envisioned his classes and students could enjoy.
In 2020, sources say that Hotsmart acquired Teachable for about $250M.

In A Nutshell Teachable Ricky Gutierrez
Teachable allows one to make and sell online classes and training with videos, quizzes, and lectures. It’s a straightforward and intuitive interface that makes it an excellent platform for complete beginners. You don’t need to have a virtual assistant or team member to perform it because it already deals with your sales monitoring, payment collections, and affiliates commissions. Instead, you can focus more on course building.

Who Uses Teachable?
We can’t deny that online learning is a fast and booming industry. And we would like to take a slice from the ever-growing demand.
It’s ideal for entrepreneurs, founders, and small business owners who wish to create online courses to a potentially profitable business. Teachable is used by folks like Pat Flynn of Smart Passive Income to market their courses to students.
You also have enterprises such as The New York Times, Shopify, and Penn Law.
More than 100,000 founders sold over $1 billion in courses and training for students all around the world as of now.
Here are some of the features I enjoyed in Teachable:
Ease of Use
Teachable’s best feature is being less of a tech headache and more of being your partner-in-arms to a business.
As mentioned previously, Teachable prides itself on its ease of use. Going around and operating the program will be found easy by tech beginners.
When you register on the site, it leads you to the dashboard. There you may see headers such as users, websites, sales, emails, and classes. It’s pretty straightforward. Uploading files, reviewing analytics, issuing refunds, and communication with students becomes easier for the user.
Customization
Teachable’s list of partners is fairly extensive making it possible to integrate as many tools as you need. You will also find that you can easily create multimedia lectures, videos, homepage, and landing pages with their power editor.
Teachable offers a large selection of topics for your online course website which you can select to create an appealing landing page. All you’ve got to do is upload the logos, text, images and choose color schemes to fit your business’ branding.
If you’re an advanced user, you have the option of inserting custom CSS or HTML into the Code Snippets region.

Marketing, Student Tracking Tools, and Analytics Capabilities
When you are attempting to analyze your course sales, Teachables has all the necessary and essential sales tracking and analytics tools that you’d need. You can see how well your classes have performed in specific periods.
You can provide your students discounts should they choose to buy another course when you get access to advanced sales features like one-click upsells and bundles from availing higher plans. It is a fantastic way of increasing conversions.
When it comes to student monitoring, you can check student registration and engagement. You will receive reports on how your students interact with your classes, their completion rates, and in which the students get stuck.
Teachable deals with tech and promotion for you so you do not need to worry about monitoring student and sales insights with their comprehensive dashboards.
Completion Certificates
To get this feature, you would need a Pro or Business Plan. The class will award the certificates upon completion (Admin > Courses > Course > Certificates). There are templates available. Teachable will automatically insert your school name, student’s name, and name of the course. You may change aspects of your certificate like logo, colour scheme, and preset pictures. But, you may also create one yourself using the block editor (rich text and Liquid/HTML blocks).
Payment Options
You do not have to find a 3rd party for payment processing as Teachable comes with its own refundable payment processing through Teachable Payments.
You can select your payment money from a broad range of choices. You may also generate coupons and discount codes for students and affiliate codes. Teachable will manage affiliate payouts automatically.
Teachable has options like Stripe and PayPal and advanced payment options like Visa and Mastercard.
You have the option of charging your courses as one-time purchases, monthly payments, or as a subscription which your pupils can pay by credit card, debit card, PayPal, Apple Pay, and Google Pay.
Customer Support
The service is responsive. It has an extensive knowledge library with online lessons and lives webinars for common questions you may ask as you begin creating your first course. You can create a ticket if you have any additional queries. Normally, you’ll hear back from service within one day. Professional Teachable clients have access to live chat service.

Here are a few things I don’t like about Teachable now that I’ve talked about what I liked about it:
- No free plans.
- Teachable doesn’t have a free plan. However, it does offer a 14-day trial.
- 5% transaction fees
- There is a 5% transaction fee for those who opt for the Basic plan.
- No phone support.
- There’s no phone number to contact for queries.
Why should you attempt it?
I am not the most tech-savvy person out there. Far from it, actually. I have had many a day being the most confused about the bunch. However, with Teachable, I found it fairly easy. It does take a while to explore the web site, its features, and test stuff out. Akin to a duck testing the waters first.
You can teach how you want to know by using customization tools to personalize your content. Teachable Ricky Gutierrez
You don’t need to worry about marketing. Teachable has built-in features to take care of taxes, payouts, affiliates, and authors. So all you’ve got to worry about is making the content that you want to sell.
To Sum It Up
Teachable is an approachable platform for complete beginners and busy entrepreneurs who wish to concentrate more on course production than the business’s tech and marketing aspect.
You can create your online course on any subject you love, and Teachable helps you turn that into a business. Why not start today?
