Teachable is the platform for you if you’re an entrepreneur or content creator searching for a way to transform knowledge into income.

Teachable is a learning management system (LMS) based by Angkur Nagpal as a side project. It was previously called Fedora. Nagpal, a course builder himself, grew frustrated over the lack of direct access to students some platforms had. He decided to create his own online learning platform with characteristics that he envisioned his classes and students could like.

In 2020, sources say that Hotsmart acquired Teachable for approximately $250M.

In A Nutshell Teachable’ By Pat

Teachable allows one to create and sell online classes and coaching with videos, quizzes, and lectures. It’s a straightforward and intuitive interface which makes it an excellent platform for beginners. You don’t need to have a virtual assistant or team member to do it because it already deals with your sales monitoring, payment collections, and affiliates commissions. Alternatively, you can focus more on course building.

Who Uses Teachable?

We can’t deny that we would like to take a slice out of the ever-growing demand from the fast and booming industry of online learning.

Entrepreneurs, creators, and small business owners that want to make online courses into a potentially profitable business will find using Teachables to be ideal. Teachable is utilized by folks like Pat Flynn of Smart Passive Income to market their courses to students.

You also have enterprises like The New York Times, Shopify, and Penn Law.

More than 100,000 creators sold over $1 billion in classes and training for students all over the world as of now.

Here are some of the features I enjoyed in Teachable:

Ease of Use

Teachable’s best feature is being less of a tech headache and more of being your partner-in-arms to a company.

As mentioned previously, Teachable prides itself on its simplicity of use. Tech novices will find it easy to go around and operate the program.

The dashboard is the first thing a user would see after registering on the site. There you will see headers like users, websites, sales, emails, and classes. It is pretty straightforward. It is a lot easier for the user to upload files, review analytics, issue refunds, and communicate with students.

Customization

Teachable’s list of partners is fairly extensive making it possible to integrate as many tools as you need. You will also realize that you can easily create multimedia lectures, videos, homepage, and landing pages using their power editor.

Users can select to create an attractive landing page with Teachable’s large choice of themes for your online course website. All you’ve got to do is upload the logos, text, images and choose color schemes to fit your business’ branding.

You have the option of inserting custom CSS or HTML into the Code Snippets Area if you are an advanced user.

Marketing, Student Tracking Tools, and Analytics Capabilities

It has all the necessary and essential sales tracking and analytics tools that you’d need while trying to analyze your course sales. You can see how well your classes have performed in specific periods.

For higher plans, you get access to advanced sales features like one-click upsells and bundles. With this, you can provide your pupils discounts should they choose to obtain another course. It’s a fantastic means of increasing conversions.

You can check student registration and engagement in regards to student tracking. You will receive reports on how your students interact with your courses, their completion rates, and where the students get stuck.

Teachable deals with technology and marketing for you so you don’t need to worry about monitoring sales and student insights with their comprehensive dashboards.

Completion Certificates

You’d need a Pro or Business Plan to access this feature. The class will award the certificates upon completion (Admin > Courses > Course > Certificates). There are templates available. Teachable will automatically insert your school name, student’s name, and name of the course. You may change aspects of your certificate like logo, color scheme, and pre-set images. But, you may also create one yourself using the block editor (rich text and Liquid/HTML blocks).

Payment Options

Teachable comes with its own refundable payment processing via Teachable Payments. With this, you don’t need to find a 3rd party for payment processing.

You may select your payment money from a wide assortment of choices. You can even create coupons and discount codes for students and affiliate codes. Teachable will manage affiliate payouts automatically.

Teachable has options like Stripe and PayPal and advanced payment options like Visa and Mastercard.

You have the choice of charging your classes as one-time purchases, monthly payments, or as a subscription which your students can pay by credit card, debit card, PayPal, Apple Pay, and Google Pay.

Customer Support

The support is responsive. It has an extensive knowledge library with online lessons and lives webinars for common questions you might ask as you begin creating your first class. Butif you have any additional questions, you can create a ticket. Normally, you’ll hear back from service within one day. Professional Teachable clients have access to live chat support.

Including all base attributes plus priority product support, advanced reports, five admin-level users, an unbranded website, and completion class certificates, among others–no transaction fees.

This includes everything in Pro and 20-admin level users, bulk student enrollments, manual pupil imports, custom user functions, advanced theme customization, and group coaching calls. Teachable’ By Pat

Now that I’ve talked about what I liked about Teachable, here are a few things I don’t like:

  • No free plans.
  • Teachable doesn’t have a totally free plan. However, it does offer a 14-day trial.
  • 5 percent transaction fees
  • There’s a 5% transaction fee for people who opt for the Basic plan.
  • No phone service.
  • There is no phone number to contact for queries.

Why should you attempt it?

I’m not the most tech-savvy person out there. Far from it, actually. I have had many a day being the most confused about the bunch. But with Teachable, I found it fairly simple. It does take some time to explore the website, its features, and test stuff out. Comparable to a duck testing the waters first.

You can teach how you would like to learn by using customization tools to personalize your content. Teachable’ By Pat

You don’t have to worry about marketing. All you have to worry about is creating the content that you want to sell since Teachable has built-in features to look after taxes, payouts, affiliates, and writers.

To Sum It Up

Teachable is an approachable platform for complete beginners and busy entrepreneurs who want to focus more on course creation than the business’s tech and marketing aspect.

Teachable helps you turn the online courses you may make on any subject you love into a business. Why not start today?
